Frequently asked questions
What kind of experience is required to rent a paddleboard?
No experience necessary! We’ll set you up with some pointers to get you comfortable on the water. Lots of people who rent from us are first timers, our paddle boards are perfect for them because they’re quite stable.
If you’d like more in-depth instructions, book a lesson with one of our certified instructors.
What is a paddle board?
A paddle board, also known as a SUP or Stand Up Paddleboard, is similar to a surfboard, but it’s longer, thicker, and much more stable than a traditional surfboard. You stand upright on the board and glide by using a long paddle.
What is the weight limit of your paddle boards?
Our larger boards can support people up to approximately 265lbs.
What kind of shape do I need to be in?
A lot depends on the weather, and how far you’d like to go. Paddle boarding is great because it can be as strenuous, or as leisurely as you make it.
Do I need to wear shoes?
It’s up to you! Some guests prefer to go barefoot and others to wear water shoes. There are bungee cords on the front of the SUPs that can hold sandals.
Is there a place to change?
There are change rooms and storage cubbies at our Granville Island location. While we don’t have change rooms at the Kitsilano Kiosk, there are change rooms located a couple minutes walk from us at the Kitsilano Public Beach Washroom.
Are your paddle boards hard or soft (inflated) boards?
All of our boards are hard boards which are higher quality, easier to balance on and perform much better than soft boards in wind.
Do I need to know how to swim?
You don’t need to know how to swim. If you fall in, your life jacket will keep you afloat while you get back on the board.
Is there parking available?
Paid parking is available throughout Granville Island near our office. There’s lots of space but on the weekends it can fill up, so plan to arrive a little early. Want to skip the hassle? You can easily catch a 10-15 min Uber or taxi from any hotel downtown!

There is also paid parking next to our Kitsilano Kiosk:
Can I reserve a paddle board?
We offer rentals on a first come first serve basis so come early!
Groups of 10 or more can reserve. Please call the office to make your reservation (604) 736-5155.
Are there shower facilities available?
We don’t have showers at either location. We do have change rooms available at the Granville Island location and public change rooms next to our Kitsilano Kiosk.
Where can I store my things?
We have cubbies at our Granville office as well as small paid lockers for valuables such as wallets, passports and phones. We don’t have storage at the Kitsilano Kiosk.
What should I wear?
You are welcome to wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We recommend: dressing in layers on top, dressing for sun protection, avoiding cotton in all layers, and wearing clothes that let you move freely. Workout clothes or a bathing suit are usually good options!
Do I need to wear a life jacket?
YES! We have comfortable, slim-design life jackets for all of our guests to wear.
How old do I have to be to sign a waiver?
You must be 19 years of age or older to sign your waiver. Anyone under 19 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver for them.
What if I still have questions?
We’re here to help! Simply call us at (604) 736-5155 if you have any additional questions or concerns.
